On Friday in Abuja, the Supreme Court of Nigeria denied a request from the late General Sani Abacha’s family to stop the Federal Government from trying to restart the criminal forfeiture proceedings against the former head of state.
The recent move by the government to start up the fraud investigation again is aimed at a few family members who are accused of helping Abacha steal money from the national coffers.
Justice Emmanuel Agim of the Supreme Court threw out the case that was brought before the Court because it didn’t have any merit or substance.
The decisions had already been approved by the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court did not change that.
