The PDP governorship candidate, Senator Sam Anyanwu, was accused of being haughty, threatening people’s lives, intimidating people, and lacking focus by the irate party members, including the state deputy chairman, Martin Ejiogu.

According to Obasanjonews24, the irate PDP members, including the state deputy chairman Martin Ejiogu, accused Senator Sam Anyanwu—the party’s candidate for governor—of being haughty, threatening people’s lives, intimidating, and lacking focus.

Speaking at a news conference on Sunday in Owerri, the state capital, the former state working committee members said that since Anyanwu became the National Secretary of the Party, he has never wavered in using the authority granted to him by the position to oppose members of the state Working Committee.

They asserted that Senator Anyanwu incited his supporters to file baseless petitions at the national office against the state working committee and perpetually threatened to dissolve the state working committee party in Imo State.

Collins Opurozor, who until recently served as the PDP’s state publicity secretary, addressed the other PDP SWC members on their behalf and said that Senator Anyanwu was directly responsible for all of the recent ills that had befallen the party in the state.

He called the Senator Iyorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee’s unfair imposition of him as the Imo PDP governorship candidate the cruelest in the party’s history.

“Since 2020, when this Working Committee assumed control of the PDP’s executive branch in Imo State, we have established a tradition of being open and honest with you as members of the realm’s fourth estate about all issues that trouble our dear state,” Opurozor stated.

“Through such interactions, we have fostered faith in a better Imo realized through sound governance and democratic standards.”Sadly, it is not the time for such encounters. We categorically state that the PDP in Imo State has now been irreparably wounded by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (Samdadday), and the Party is, at long last, irrevocably heading toward its demise.

“It is imperative that we remind you that, over the past three years, this Working Committee has created a PDP in Imo State that is extremely robust, formidable, and admirable. We anticipated the need to create roughly 5,000 chapters throughout all of the State’s voting units in order to widen the internal democratic space and help the Party fulfill its goal of being a truly democratic organization. We brought the Party to the masses, which made us popular with the Imo people. Despite having few resources, we managed to complete this work. No other political party in Nigeria has accomplished this.

“In addition, we institutionalized the accountability culture in party administration and showed that we were ready to lead and improve Imo.

But ever since Senator Anyanwu was elected National Secretary of the Party, he has not stopped using his authority to intimidate Party members of all ranks and to combat members of this Working Committee. Imo PDP has now been defined and desecrated by endless conflict, senseless battles, and the degradation of all democratic values and principles.

“Senator Anyanwu continues to fund his dwindling band of supporters to craft silly petitions against us and saturate the National Secretariat of the Party with such nonsense, which he sponsors day after day. Even after we won the Supreme Court battle against him, he has persisted in threatening to dissolve the Party in Imo State based on those ruses. Samdadday’s destructive aim has not wavered and he has not expressed any remorse.

“It breaks my heart to tell you that some of us on the State Working Committee narrowly avoided many attempts on our lives due of the depraved lies that our National Secretary spread to his thugs, claiming that we had stolen Party money.

“Yet, it was he, Senator Anyanwu, who sent his aides from Abuja to steal the materials for last year’s congresses of the Party, thereby creating a deadlock that gulped down all of our resources through numerous and contentious exercises and the appeasement of multiple stakeholders to save the Party from not fielding candidates for the 2023 elections,” the statement continued.

Ray Emeana, the party secretary, Greg Nwadike, the youth leader, Martin Ejiogu, Maria Mbakwe, the state woman leader, Josiah Eze, the state treasurer, and Chibuisi Obido, the state vice chairman, Orlu Zone, are among the displeased party members that left the Imo PDP.
