The Oba of Benin and Tinubu meet in Aso Rock

What prompted the august gathering was previously unclear.

His Royal Majesty Omon’Oba N’Edo Uku’Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, was seated in the State House on Friday by President Bola Tinubu.

There have been rumours that the august visit was intended to formally congratulate the new president on his inauguration as well as to discuss issues that the Nigerian people find important. However, it remained unclear at the time this news was filed what had prompted the august visit.

The National Open University of Nigeria’s Chancellor was named by the Federal Government in May. He is the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II.

When the administration of the university paid a courtesy visit to the Oba in Benin City, Edo State, Prof. Olufemi Peters, the vice chancellor of the institution, revealed this and promised that the university’s fortunes will improve.

The king replied, “We hope to bring our experience in guiding the institution’s affairs,” the monarch stated. I am very appreciative to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Commander-in-Chief, for selecting me to serve as the Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria.
