In a statement, Eradiri strongly condemned the incident, labeling it as a pogrom and emphasizing the barbarity, heinousness, and unimaginable nature of the killings.
He stressed that no circumstances could justify such a level of wickedness towards law enforcement officials.
While acknowledging the military’s provocation due to the dastardly act, Eradiri called for restraint in their response to the situation.
He urged the military to follow globally accepted protocols in addressing the issue, cautioning against venting anger on innocent communities and civilians. Instead, he requested that the military utilize high-level intelligence gathering to identify, isolate, arrest, and appropriately deal with only those individuals connected to the incident.
Eradiri also appealed to the community stakeholders, including traditional rulers, chiefs, and responsible youth leadership, to provide any information that could aid in the arrest of the culprits.
He emphasized the need for the military to conduct thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killings, in order to redesign their operational strategies and prevent future occurrences.
Expressing concern over the occurrence of such an incident in the first place, Eradiri pointed out that it highlighted the collapse of state and local government administrations, failures of traditional institutions, and a lack of intelligence within the security network.
He called for a comprehensive approach that not only dealt with the perpetrators but also addressed the underlying issues that contributed to the tragedy.
