The lawsuit alleging procurement fraud against Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been postponed by the Federal Capital Territory High Court until January 18, 2024.

Emefiele is being charged with misusing his position to provide CBN employee Sa’adatu Yaro a contract for the purchase of 43 cars valued at N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.

However, Emefiele was given N300 million in bail by Judge Hamza Muazu, who also stipulated that he would need to provide two sureties in the same amount of money.

The judge stated that the sureties needed to possess titles and certificates of occupancy for homes located in Abuja’s Maitama neighbourhood.

Emefiele was dragged away by armed Nigerian Correctional Service officials because he has not yet complied with his bail conditions.
