President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has attributed the loss of two senatorial districts by the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 National Assembly elections to the failure of APC leaders in those areas to invite him to their campaigns.
According to Akpabio, he would have campaigned in those districts and ensured victory for the party. He made these remarks during a stakeholders’ meeting in Uyo, as reported by his Special Assistant on Media (Print), Jackson Udom.
Akpabio expressed his determination to unite the party and position it for success in the 2027 state elections. He emphasized the need for immediate reconciliation within the party and instructed the Chairman of the party in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, to establish a reconciliation committee to address the internal conflicts.
Akpabio stressed that the party must be united and that individuals cannot be allowed to work for different parties simultaneously. He called for the resolution of all issues within the APC and urged his leaders to come together and reconcile for a stronger future.
During the 2027 elections, the top legislator conveyed optimism regarding the victory of the opposition party, APC, in the state.
He emphasized, “It would be highly unusual if the third-ranking official does not secure a governorship position for the same party after the election.”
“It is a well-known fact that wherever the Senate President is, the party’s influence is also present.”
He questioned, “Is it conceivable that Nigeria would grant Akwa Ibom the position of the third-ranking official and yet fail to produce an APC governor at the conclusion of the election?”
