Terrorists attack again in Zamfara, killing Mallam Isah and two other people

The headquarters of the Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State, located in Maru town, has been assaulted by terrorists.

To frighten the locals, the invaders assaulted the neighbourhood in the wee hours of Friday and fired intermittently. They reportedly showed up at the LG in big groups and with a lot of weaponry.

The state’s police authorities have not yet verified the most recent attack. Yazid Abubakar, a spokesman for the Zamfara Police Command, did not answer calls from Channels Television.

A town resident, who asked to remain anonymous for security concerns, told Channels Television that the terrorists were engaged in a two-hour-long intense gunfight by the Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji after they quickly responded to a distress call.

While pointing out that there was no proof that any residents had been kidnapped during the assault, he added that three people had died, one of them being an elderly man known as Mallam Isah.

“I can confirm to you that three people have been shot and killed, but as of right now, we don’t know if they kidnapped anybody,” the insider stated.

A Divisional Police Officer in the Maru Local Government Area and two other law enforcement officers lost their lives earlier this year while thwarting a comparable attempt on the local government offices.

For many years, gangs known as bandits have terrorised states in North-Western and Central Nigeria. These groups raid villages, killing and kidnapping people for ransom in remote areas with little government presence.

The gangs, who are well-known for their recent spate of widespread abductions from educational institutions, have camps buried in a large forest that crosses the states of Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger.

Security personnel have had difficulty putting an end to the violence in the North West, and multiple attempts at amnesties and peace agreements with the bandit gangs have fallen through.

Authorities and security experts are concerned about the robbers’ growing connections to Islamists who are leading a 14-year armed insurgency in the nation, despite the fact that their motivations are solely pecuniary and have no ideological slant.
