Insurgents from Boko Haram carried out an attack in the state’s Gwoza Local Government Area, according to the Police Command in Borno State, that left five people with varied degrees of injuries.
During a Saturday interview in Maiduguri with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the state’s commissioner of police, Mr. Abdu Umar, verified the occurrence.
Five people were hurt in the attack, he added, and he claimed that the attackers opened fire on the voting district from the top of Mandara mountain.
Three men and two women were among the victims, according to Umar.
Because of the military’s superior firepower, he claimed, the terrorists were forced to evacuate as a result of the military’s efforts within its area of responsibility.
As the voting process went on and the patients were sent to a hospital for care, the CP claimed that normalcy had since been restored.
The Network of Civil Society Organizations in Borno (NECSOB), in the meantime, has voiced confidence in light of the excellent voter turnout in the state’s presidential and national assembly elections.
The election’s observers were led by the group’s chairman, Mr. Bulama Abiso, who called the turnout “encouraging.”
However, he saw that there were isolated instances of the Bimodal Accreditation System (BVAS) malfunctioning, which caused delays in the early start of voting.
In order to enable a smooth election, Abiso advised the voters to behave in a civilised manner.
