Tension in Ondo as Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s Widow Clash Over Memorial Lecture
A clash between Ondo Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Betty Akeredolu, the late governor’s widow, over a memorial lecture sparks political tension in the state.
A brewing conflict has arisen in Ondo State between Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, the widow of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, regarding plans to organize a memorial lecture honoring the deceased governor.
Following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on December 28 last year after a prolonged illness, his deputy, Aiyedatiwa, succeeded him in accordance with constitutional provisions.
To honor the legacy of the former governor, the Ondo State Government has announced plans to host a memorial lecture on Friday, December 27.
However, this decision has drawn criticism from Mrs. Akeredolu, who asserts that the event was arranged without her family’s consultation.
Posting on her verified X account, the former First Lady voiced her dissatisfaction, stating that the proposed lecture does not align with her husband’s legacy.
She alleged that the state government excluded the family from the planning process, implying that the lecture might not genuinely honor her late husband.
She described it as an “opportunity to profit at Aketi’s expense.”
According to her, “Lucky can’t be serious! What legacy? Mtcheew. Lecture, my foot! This isn’t for Aketi because neither I nor my family knows anything about it. Damn it!”
As the saying goes, you and your companions cannot cut Aketi’s hair without him being present. You shouldn’t mourn more than the person who has experienced the loss. This is misleading propaganda taken too far!
Lucky, you seem focused on criticizing Aketi’s legacy; however, your efforts are unlikely to succeed. It appears that anyone associated with Aketi and Arabinrin becomes an adversary in your eyes. Your followers are too afraid to approach them for fear of losing their positions.
Now you’re trying to put on a bogus lecture for Aketi’s memorial as an excuse to profit from it. You’re entirely on your own with this scheme! If this isn’t some sort of scam, then what is?
Nonetheless, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, stated that the scheduled lecture was a private event organized by the state government.
He explained that the organizers had invited the family of the late Akeredolu.
