Four officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) sustained injuries during an altercation that occurred in Oruma community, situated within Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area. The incident further heightened tensions among residents.

According to reports, the officers sustained injuries during a search operation aimed at apprehending drug traffickers within the vicinity.

Upon arriving at the border community adjacent to Rivers State, the NDLEA team had intended to detain those engaged in narcotics trade. Unfortunately, they faced opposition from resident youngsters who were hostile towards them.

On Thursday, the occurrence in Yenagoa was affirmed by Mr. Daniel Obah who serves as a representative for NDLEA’s state command.

According to his report, four officials were hospitalized for treatment due to sustaining serious injuries. Three other operatives suffered only minor injuries and have been discharged from hospitalization.

During the confrontation, the NDLEA vehicles utilized in the operation also sustained damage.

According to Inebika-emi, the Youth President of Oruma, the community was surprised by the raid because they were not informed beforehand. He reported that four young people from their locality were wounded and apprehended during it while adding that their families had no access to them for medical care in Yenagoa.

Oruma has a track record of combating drug abuse and enforcing stringent local laws against it, as emphasized by Inebika-emi.

He expressed disapproval of the raid’s lack of professionalism and urged for involvement from both the state commander of NDLEA and Bayelsa State government.

He emphasized the community’s dedication to peace and cautioned against exacerbating the situation.
