A tenant in Ibadan faces serious charges after being accused of defiling a 7-year-old girl. Discover the latest updates on this disturbing case.

Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, the Chief Magistrate of Iyaganku Family Court in Oyo State’s city of Ibadan, has remanded Kareem Mojeed – a tenant accused of sexually assaulting his landlord’s seven-year-old daughter on Wednesday.

Mojeed was ordered by the court to be confined at Agodi Correctional Centre until receiving legal guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused, whose place of residence was withheld, stood charged with defilement by law enforcement. Mojeed did not enter a plea before Magistrate Ogunkanmi and the case documents were ordered to be copied for submission to the DPP for additional legal counsel.

The court was informed by Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, the prosecutor, that on July 21, 2024 at approximately 5:00 p.m., the alleged offence took place in Ibadan’s Ebedi region.

The young girl was lured into Mojeed’s room by Adedeji, where he committed a detestable act. This action violates Section 34 of the Oyo State Child’s Rights Law from the year 2006.

The DPP’s legal advice will determine the status of the case, adjourned until October 14th, 2024.
