In San Vicente, Mexico, an armed group ambushed a meeting and at least 19 people were shot.
Authorities in San Vicente, Mexico, announced on Sunday that an ambush attack on a two-day car event on Saturday resulted in at least ten fatalities and nine further injuries.
According to phone calls made by victims to emergency services, a gray van drew up to a gas station where people were gathered at around 2:18 p.m. local time, and a number of shooters emerged and started firing long guns. The shooters allegedly drove away from the area in their car.
At least two people can be seen shooting at rally cars parked at a petrol station in a video that was supposedly captured for the attack and shared on social media. In the aftermath, footage and pictures show rally participants in uniform lying on the ground next to their competition cars, perhaps dead.
According to Mayor Armando Ayala Robles, the investigation into the shooting has been commissioned by Attorney General Ricardo Ivan Carpio Sanchez. The Mexican Red Cross, the fire department, the Marines, the state and municipal police, and the military all reportedly dispatched personnel to the incident. As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been noted.
About 73 miles (117 km) south of the US border, an organization by the name of Cachanillazo hosted an all-terrain vehicle rally. The band wrote on Instagram that they were sorry for the victims’ and their families’ losses and added, “Unfortunately, what happened during the tour was not in our hands.”
