Ten Hag Fires Back Over Rashford Benching Criticism

David Akinyemi

Manchester United manager Ten Hag hits back at critics of his decision to bench Rashford, stating, “You’re not okay,” in a fiery response.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has taken aim at Jamie Redknapp, a pundit on Sky Sports, for implying that Marcus Rashford was left out of their Premier League match against Crystal Palace because of “something untoward” that occurred behind the scenes.

At Selhurst Park, United drew 0-0 thanks to some outstanding saves from goalkeepers Andre Onana and Dean Henderson.

Rashford was a substitute for the game and was named Player of the Match following United’s 7-0 victory over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup earlier this week.

Alejandro Garnacho was Ten Hag’s choice to start on the left side of the attack.

Redknapp said prior the kickoff that Rashford might have upset Ten Hag.

“It feels like something has gone wrong,” he stated.

“This week feels like something happened, and the management is upset about it.

“It’s uncommon for a manager to discuss a player’s lifestyle openly and honestly.”

Ten Hag answered, “Yeah, I heard already the speculation, some pundits,” in response to a question on Redknapp’s remarks following the game at Palace. That is absurd.

“Then, if you don’t know what’s [happen] on, I would almost argue that you are not okay as a human when you present such supposition.

“We have a lot of games to cover and more than 11 starting players, so this is just rotation. But we have to give all the players a chance; if they perform well, we will give them opportunities.”
