Tems wins BMI R&B/Hip-Hop and ELLE Style honours

Temilade Openiyi, better known by his stage name Tems, is a Grammy Award-winning singer from Nigeria.

The Oscar-nominated diva won the Trailblazer Award at the ELLE Style Awards on September 6, 2023, in London, the United Kingdom.

Naomi Ackie, a BAFTA-winning actress, and BBC Radio 1 host Julie Adenuga presented Tems with her award, which she accepted in person.

The “Essence” singer credited her upbringing in Lagos, Nigeria, and her faith for her career success thus far in her acceptance speech.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Tems was recognised as Songwriter of the Year at the 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, which were hosted on September 6, 2023, at the LIV Nightclub in Miami Beach.

She received recognition for her songwriting work on the songs “Free Mind,” “Lift Me Up,” by Rihanna, and “Wait For U” by Future and Drake.
