Khadija Adamu, a pregnant 18-year-old housewife who was imprisoned for killing her 5-year-old stepdaughter by hitting her, claims she had no intention of killing the child.
According to Khadija, she was merely trying to correct the toddler for urinating on her clothes.
Tuesday saw Khadija being brought before the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly killing her stepdaughter Hafsat by beating her.
According to reports, the tragedy happened on September 28, 2023, in the Bauchi metropolis’s Kandahar district.
The suspect was reported to the A Divisional Police headquarters by the suspect’s husband, Abdulaziz Adamu, 38, after she beat up the victim “as a result of alleged pass-stool that spoiled her clothes,” according to the Police spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil.
In a conversation with our reporter at the Command headquarters, Khadija described the events that led to Hafsat’s execution and asked, “How can I kill a child that was like my child? She was my co-wife’s baby, but she was also my daughter because my husband was her father.
“What happened was just a mistake; there was no murderous intent.
“I am a mother as well, and I am four months along with my second pregnancy. How am I going to murder another kid? This girl urinated on her body, which I believed was inappropriate for a girl her age, so I hit her with a USB chord as punishment. It wasn’t like I was planning to murder her.
“I had no idea she would pass away. All I wanted to do was correct her. She passed away the day after I defeated her, and I was extremely saddened and upset by her passing away.
