The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has earned the appreciation of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo sociocultural organisation, for his persistent dedication and tenacity in the face of difficulties and opposition in the performance of his duties.
The minister will become a pillar in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to Ohanaeze, because of Umahi’s fixation on concrete technology.
The minister’s commitment to building new Super Highways and paving roads using cement technology, a step endorsed by President Tinubu, was praised by the group.
According to a statement from Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, the unique cement concrete technique, which promises roads that would endure more than 50 years, was first greeted with resistance from some contractors who cited the high cost of cement as a disincentive.
Isiguzoro, however, claimed in a statement that Senator Umahi’s stance on cement technology had been validated by the recent “fall in the prices of BUA Cement. Sen. Umahi’s advice for cement technology can no longer be ignored because of the drop in cement prices brought on by the great demand for cement technology.
The Ohanaeze stated that “the expectations of the Nigerian public for strong roads constructed with cement technology are now attainable.
“The need for roads that will last 50 years has made Senator Engineer Dave Umahi a celebrated figure and the cornerstone of President Tinubu’s administration,” the statement reads.
The group also applauded Umahi for resolving the conflict amicably with Ministry of Works employees and staff, calling to it as “family friction.”
“Workers have responded favourably to his fatherly approach to changing their attitudes towards arriving to work late,” he stated.
Ohanaeze further advised Tinubu to give the Ministry of Works additional funding so that it can run efficiently and follow the Renewed Hope Agenda.
