Dupe Ehiorobo, a teacher at Access Ville School in Ipaja, Lagos who is 45 years of age appeared before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday to face charges of assaulting a four-year-old student.
According to Insp. John Iberedem, who was leading the prosecution, the occurrence took place on May 13th at the school.
According to Iberedem, Ehiorobo subjected the child to severe flogging as a disciplinary measure for misconduct in class which resulted in injuries on his back and thighs.

Despite the charges against him, Ehiorobo pled not guilty.
The prosecutor pointed out that she had violated Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 by committing an unlawful assault and could face up to one year imprisonment as a result.
Bail was granted to Ehiorobo by Chief Magistrate Mrs. E. Kubeinje, with a stipulated amount of N100,000 and the requirement of two sureties providing an equal sum each.
The state government requires proof of tax payments from the sureties and their addresses need to be authenticated.
Further hearing for the case is scheduled on October 10 as it has been adjourned.
