The looming darkness across the nation is a direct result of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, standing firm on their decision to withdraw their services unless the Nigerian Government reverses the recently approved electricity tariff increase.
NUEE, through its acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, conveyed a message to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, warning of decisive action if the tariff withdrawal is not addressed promptly.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s decision to raise the electricity tariff for Band A customers receiving 20 hours of power supply daily has sparked outrage among various groups, including NUEE, the Nigerian Labour Congress, and the Trade Unions Congress.

The power sector workers argue that the tariff hike is unreasonable, especially in a country where a significant portion of the population struggles with basic needs and where electricity access remains low.
NUEE emphasized that the increase in electricity tariff is not in the best interest of Nigerians and should be reversed to ensure constant and affordable power supply for the citizens.
The Minister of Power, represented by his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, assured that the government is committed to enhancing power supply in Nigeria, despite the ongoing challenges in the sector.
