In the recently ended local government (LG) council election that took place in Taraba State on Saturday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in every chairmanship category.
Six political parties competed for the titles of chairman and council member in each of the 168 electoral wards located in the state’s 16 local government regions.
Philip Duwe, the chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission, said that the PDP had won every chairmanship.
But in order to seek justice, he invited individuals who felt wronged to go to the election petition tribunal.

The PDP requested that the All Progressives Congress (APC) settle its own disputes before protesting about the poll’s results, despite the APC calling for the complete annulment of the election due to purported anomalies.
While several voters claimed the procedure was peaceful and fair, our correspondent observed poor voter turnout and late delivery of election materials at several polling places in Jalingo, the state capital.
The previous chairs were dissolved when their terms ended and their years of service were cut from three to two by the state government. This was followed by the election.
In the meantime, in an effort to fully grant local government autonomy, the state government is scheduled to swear in the newly elected chairman of the 16 local government districts on Monday.
