In order to protect the populace from criminal activity by Cameroonian elements, Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas has urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to expand their presence in border towns between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Kefas made the call on Monday in Abuja on a courtesy visit to Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

He added that it was crucial that the military beefs up its presence in the region since Ambzonian insurgents from Cameroon have been terrorising border communities in the state’s Kashimbila Local Government Area during the last few months.

According to him, the state’s citizens wanted to coexist peacefully and continue to have positive connections with its neighbours so that they could conduct business with them.

According to Kefas, the rebels are killing and committing atrocities every day.

Therefore, he replied, “We want you to look into it and see how we can boost troop presence so that we will be able to stop their excesses, so we can talk about how we can improve the lives of our people.

The state had faced a number of security issues throughout time, and the governor praised the military’s efforts to address them.

He expressed faith in the CDS’s and other service chiefs’ capacity and resolve to address the issues and bring about the nation’s peace.

He claimed that recently, the Taraba military had started important operations to eradicate the presence of bandits, particularly in the ungoverned areas of the states.

Along with the military’s presence, Kefas claimed that the state’s suspension of all mining operations was also producing the desired results.

“We are here to let you know that we are prepared to work with the armed forces to ensure security in Taraba and, indirectly, throughout the northeastern region of Nigeria and throughout the country as a whole.

So, he said, “If we can take charge and make our state safe for investors to invest in, I think we’ll eventually make progress.”

The CDS, Gen. Musa, responded by praising the governor’s efforts to solve the security issues in the state and promising to make sure that the state and the country as a whole achieve peace.

He referred to Taraba as “a gold mine in terms of natural endowment” and stated it was impossible to overstate Taraba’s significance to the country.

He contends that ensuring that people have access to security is a requirement and that security is always a government’s first concern.

Because Taraba state is so highly gifted with people, minerals, and everything else you can think of, we want to reassure you that we will do everything necessary to keep it peaceful.

“Let me assure you that Taraba State and you have the full support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in our efforts to maintain a just peace.

According to him, when there is peace in Taraba and other locations, it will spread to other states, particularly in the North-East.

The governor was congratulated by the CDS for continuing to assist the state’s military. (NAN)
