The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has appointed Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas as chairman of the Bayelsa State National Campaign Council.

Yusuf Sanda, the state governor’s Chief Press Secretary, announced the appointment to journalists in Jalingo, Taraba’s capital, on Sunday.

According to the statement, Kefas will lead the 122-member team to the state ahead of the governorship election on November 11 this year.

The effort, according to the statement, is intended to galvanise support for Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri’s reelection campaign in the state’s upcoming governorship election.

“This important national assignment is in recognition of Dr. Agbu Kefas’ sterling leadership qualities and democratic credentials, which have been lauded at home and abroad,” the statement said.

According to the release, the Campaign Council would be established on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

While Governor Diri will be flying the PDP banner in the upcoming governorship election in Bayelsa, the primary opposition candidate, Timipre Sylva, will be running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
