According to a Confederation of African Football (CAF) official, Tanzania coach Adel Amrouche has received an eight-match ban for making derogatory comments about Morocco.
The suspension, imposed by the CAF disciplinary committee, means that Amrouche will not be able to participate in the remaining matches of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in the Ivory Coast.
Tanzania, considered outsiders in Group F, suffered a 3-0 defeat against Morocco and will face Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo in their other mini-league fixtures.
In an Algerian TV interview prior to the Cup of Nations, Amrouche claimed that Moroccan officials within CAF have control over the scheduling and refereeing of matches involving the senior men’s national team.
He argued that scheduling a World Cup qualifier against Morocco in the afternoon would have favored Tanzania due to the sweltering heat in Dar es Salaam, as many Moroccan players are accustomed to colder climates in Europe.
Prior to his role with Tanzania, Amrouche had coached various national teams and clubs in Equatorial Guinea, Burundi, Kenya, Libya, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Algeria.
