The former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has won the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship nomination for Bayelsa State.
According to Obasanjonews24, the Presidency acknowledged Sylva’s resignation so she could run for governor of Bayelsa State.
To select its candidate for the November 11 election, the APC in Bayelsa State started primary voting on Friday across 105 wards.
Sylva received 52,061 votes to defeat his closest rival, Joshua MacIver, who received 2,078 votes, according to results announced by Maj. Gen. A.T. Jubrin, chairman of the APC electoral committee, at the state party secretariat in Yenagoa.
In addition, he stated that 58,121 of the total accredited voters who participated in the primary out of 142,031 registered voters were also present.
Ongoebi Etebu Maureen received 1277 votes, Chief Festus Daumiebi received 557, Chief David Lyon received 1591 votes, Chief Joshua Maciver received 2078 votes, and Ogbomade Johnson received 584 votes, among others.
Sylva praised stakeholders, members, and all candidates in his acceptance speech for maintaining discipline prior to, during, and after the election, adding that the road to victory in the general election has just begun.
He expressed his gratitude to the party for choosing him to lead it at a time when Bayelsans needed effective leadership and declared that with everyone’s support, victory in the general election was guaranteed.
The second-place finisher, Maciver, vowed to collaborate with the eventual winner and all of the party’s stakeholders to complete the most important task: defeat the PDP in the general election.
Sylva would compete against the incumbent governor, Douye Diri, who was the front-runner for the People’s Democratic Party in the Bayelsa governor’s race.
