Sylva cannot win the Bayelsa election – APC leader
The candidate of the APC and the former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has no chance of winning the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state, according to a chieftain of the party and former lawmaker for the Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency, Hon. Isreal Sunny-Goli.
Sunny-Goli, a significant APC supporter and steadfast ally of Sylva, refuted rumours that he would switch allegiance to the state’s dominant Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, and insisted that he would continue to be an APC member.
The former congressman told reporters in Yenagoa on Thursday that Governor Douye Diri of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is not going to be defeated by the former Sylva, who has been his principal for more than 20 years.
Despite the fact that Sylvia will receive support from other party members, he asserted, “My interest is not in him. I resigned, but this does not imply that the party will not hold elections; hopefully, tomorrow, people won’t take fidelity and support for granted.
As the Bayelsa State gubernatorial election on November 11 approaches, he stated, “There are rumours concerning my political career. Some people predicted that I would leave my party and principle, Timipre Sylva, and defect to the PDP shortly. I believe it is necessary to clarify my choice. I won’t be switching to the PDP.
“Since 2014, I have been a founding member of the APC. In the House of Assembly, I was elected to represent Brass Constituency 1, and I was later elected to represent Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency. We’ll stay in the party, and I’m still a member.
“I will continue to support the new president of the United States, who was just elected by our party.
Timipre Sylva and the APC lack the organisational capacity to win elections and unseat the current governor of the state. I am keeping an eye on political developments as the various candidates start their campaigns to earn the support of the people of Bayelsa.
Election triumphs are legitimately anticipated, not merely in the next three months as he is doing. Douye Diri will win with ease if the poll is held today. He will easily win each of the eight local government districts. Since we are all politicians, we are aware of what it takes to succeed in politics.
