Segun Adewale, a former chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced his decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adewale made this declaration during a press conference held in Lagos over the weekend.
Last week, the PDP in Alimosho Local Government Area suspended Adewale indefinitely, accusing him of causing discord within the party and damaging its reputation.
Prior to his suspension, Adewale had attributed the party’s inability to secure electoral victories in the state since 1999 to corruption and internal strife among party members.
During the press conference, Adewale stated, “I have no intention of running for office in 2027, but rather, I am joining the ruling party to show my support for the president. My next step is to travel to Abuja and pay my respects to Tinubu.”
In response to his suspension, Adewale claimed that the move was orchestrated by individuals who were upset with him for exposing their mishandling of campaign funds during the 2023 election.
He further emphasized that his suspension would not affect him, as his ward had full confidence in him and had distanced itself from the reported disciplinary action.
