Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi made an announcement on Wednesday regarding the apprehension of certain suspects in connection with the killings carried out by bandits in Agojeju-Odo and Abejukolo towns in Omala Local Government Area. On April 4, the settlements were attacked by suspected herders, resulting in the reported death of 25 individuals and injuries to several others.
Governor Ododo, while speaking to the press after his prayer at Okene Eid-el Praying Ground, stated that arrests had been made and investigations were ongoing. He emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring peace in the area and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice once the investigation was concluded.
The governor expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and reiterated the government’s support for those injured and whose houses were destroyed in the attack. He also urged Muslims in the state to continue practicing the values of kindness, generosity, love, and understanding that they learned during the holy month of Ramadan.
Chief David Akpa, the District Head of Omala, confirmed the burial of the 25 individuals killed in the attack and condemned the barbaric and wicked nature of the bandits’ actions.
The traditional ruler made an appeal to both the federal and state governments, urging them to provide assistance to the victims who have sought shelter in different communities due to the imminent threat to their lives.
He expressed deep sorrow for the loss of their loved ones, emphasizing that they had never encountered any conflicts with either bandits or herdsmen prior to this tragic incident.
