Suspected kidnapper apprehended in Kaduna with N2.25m ransom money – Police
Bello Mohammed, a 28-year-old from Zamfara state, has been apprehended by the Nigeria Police Force in Kaduna. According to a statement by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrest took place on January 20th during a raid on a hotel in Tafa Area, Kaduna. Bello was found in possession of N2.25m, suspected to be proceeds from ransom collected from kidnapped victims in the area.
During interrogation, Bello confessed to being part of a gang responsible for the kidnapping of the family members of Barrister Ariyo in Bwari, FCT, on January 2nd, 2024.
He also admitted to the killing of kidnapped victims, including Nabeeha, the daughter of the legal practitioner, on January 13th in a kidnappers camp in Kaduna State. In a surprising turn of events, Bello attempted to bribe the DPO with N1,000,000, but the offer was rejected, and the DPO carried out his duties diligently.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered that Bello be handed over to the DFI-IRT in Abuja for discreet investigations into the matter and the arrest of all other individuals involved in the criminal activities.
The suspect is currently assisting the police with their investigations. The commitment and professionalism displayed by DPO Tafa, SP Idris Ibrahim, in handling the case have been commended, and the Police assure the public that they will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
