Suspected Gunman Arrested in Osun for Assaulting 18-Year-Old Girl

A man identified as Jelili Ogunbunmi has been apprehended by Nigerian law enforcement officers for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old girl in Osun State.

The assault reportedly occurred last Thursday at Adewumi village near Olode in the Ife South Local Government area.

According to a source within the community who requested anonymity, the incident happened around 8 PM when the victim, Blessing, went to purchase a soft drink with her boyfriend, known as Daniel.

The source stated: “As Daniel and his girlfriend were heading back from the errand, Ogunbunmi, armed with a gun, intercepted them and threatened them with violence. Daniel managed to escape, leaving his girlfriend alone with the perpetrator.

“The assailant then dragged Blessing into the bushes and sexually assaulted her, warning her of dire consequences if she resisted. However, he was apprehended after Daniel reported the incident to the authorities.”

In response to inquiries, the Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, verified the occurrence on Sunday, June 23.

Opalola revealed: “Ogunbunmi has been taken into custody, and a locally-made gun used in the assault has been seized. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.”
