As suspected cultists behead a youth leader, there is unrest in Akwa Ibom.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is looking into the brutal killing of Hezekiah Adaiden, who was the youth president of the Inen village in the state’s OrukAnam Local Government Area.

According to reports, Adaiden was having a group of young men over to his compound on Sunday, December 18, 2022, when he allegedly met his death at the hands of suspected cultists.

Reports say that the murder caused tension, and that many people worried about the safety of the area.

According to a witness, the cultists beat Adaiden into a coma before cutting off his head.

The informant claimed that the thugs ransacked the home, assaulted the wife, and stole valuables.

The youth president gave the cultists drinks when they arrived in the compound at an odd hour of the night because he knew them. Around one in the morning, another group arrived who were well-armed and hostile, pulled the victim to a corner, and killed him, the person added.

The most aggravating part is that they tormented and beat his wife ruthlessly before beheading her and fleeing with his head. They also poured the soup that she had made on her head.

In a statement on Wednesday, December 21, the command’s spokesperson, Odiko Mcdon, called the assassination of the youth president “barbaric” and promised to hold those responsible accountable.
