Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched a fresh attack on a Niger community, causing widespread panic and concern for safety.

The garrison town of Bassa in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State has been struck by a new series of terror attacks.

Beginning at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the town was subjected to an assault characterized by intense gunshots that caused great alarm among its inhabitants.

According to local sources, the assault is a component of numerous aggressive intrusions carried out by an extremist organization that has been instilling terror in the region for several months.

According to a source, security personnel instructed residents to remain indoors as they engaged in gunfire with the attackers when the assault commenced earlier today.

In the recent past, Bassa has faced a siege where previous assaults resulted in numerous soldier casualties. Among them was a captain whose death compelled military troops to temporarily retreat from their position.

The deployment of joint security operatives led to the return of residents, but this latest attack has destroyed any prospect for tranquility in the afflicted town.

As the attacks persist, residents are increasingly worried about their safety due to heightened security concerns caused by the ongoing violence in the area.
