Following an attack on their camp in Agagbe, Gwer-West LGA of Benue State, by suspected herdsmen, at least three internally displaced persons (IDPs) are alleged to have died.

This was corroborated by Terna Jacob, the chairman of Agagbe Camps, who stated that the event occurred on Monday afternoon when the victims were killed while out fishing in the adjoining Gbange/Tomgov Council Ward.

Jacob stated: “One Iorhemba Cletus, 37, of Block 2 Room 2 of the IDP camp Agagbe, set out for Gbange/Tomgov Council Ward yesterday morning with two other people to fish in order to sell and obtain food and other necessities for their families.”

The other two victims’ identities were revealed by the camp chairman as Igbahemba Abua, 55, and Akaa Clifford, 50.

“Akaa Clifford took to fishing and used the proceeds to provide food and also settle the medical bills of his sick wife,” the speaker continued.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Catherine Anene stated that she had not yet received the report when contacted.
