Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, stated that his visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa on Thursday, October 26, was not out of the ordinary for a sitting governor.
Speaking at the Igbedi community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state during the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship campaign train visit, Diri declared that, in light of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the presidential election, he was free to congratulate President Tinubu.
The governor was at the Presidential Villa to discuss important state matters with the president, who he claimed gave the issues positive attention, according to a statement made by his spokesperson and member of the Bayelsa PDP Governorship Campaign Council’s Publicity Directorate, Daniel Alabrah.

He insisted that he was unfazed by the opposition’s rumours and lies, claiming that their jitteriness was a result of the visit, and emphasised that their politics had always relied heavily on propaganda.
In the November 11 governorship race, he stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate was still disqualified according to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) first amended list. He also advised the people of Bayelsa not to waste their votes on a party that is not on the ballot.
The community’s projects under Diri’s leadership are clearly visible, he added, adding that he was not at Igbedi to campaign.
In order to improve access to and from the Bayelsa International Airport from the East-West Road and the Delta State axis, the governor promised the people that he would build a road connecting Igbedi to Kaiama during his second term in office.
“I was in Abuja yesterday (Thursday), and most of you saw the video trending,” stated Diri. Now that they are nervous, the opposition is lying. Naturally, that’s who they are.
“There is a president and a governor in office right now, and I owe them no explanation on my visit to the president.
As a governor in office, I reserve the right to visit the president of the United States if the Supreme Court upholds his legitimacy. But aside from that, I took up some very important state matter, and I can assure you that the President took up every one of the points I brought up.
“It is no longer possible for those whose names were removed from the list by INEC Amendment No. 1 to rest.” Their nights of insomnia will not end.
“Connecting Igbedi to Kaiama will be a crucial road during our second term, not only for the people of Bayelsa but also for the people of Delta State and for the use of our airport.” That is the project we will start working on when we return for our next term.
