Supreme Court orders retrial of Ogun PDP governorship legal case

On Monday in Abuja, the Supreme Court ruled that the Federal High Court in Abuja should retry the legal case that was brought about by the way the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, conducted its primary election for the selection of the governorship candidate in Ogun State.

In a ruling issued, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa ruled that the Federal High Court in Abuja erred by declining to exercise jurisdiction while, in reality, the country’s constitution gave it that right.

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court ruled unanimously to remand the case to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for assignment to another judge.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja’s ruling that the case be reheard by a different judge was maintained by Justice Saulawa.

The supreme court mandated that the case be properly heard and decided within the legal time frame.

Jimmy Adebisi Lawal filed a lawsuit, but Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja declined to hear it because it was a PDP internal matter.
