The Kano State Governorship Election Appeals will be decided by the Supreme Court on Friday, as confirmed by Barrister Bashir Tudun Wuzirci, the secretary of the legal team for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). Each party involved in the case has been instructed to have no more than two counsels present during the judgment, as the court will be delivering seven judgments on the same day.
It is worth noting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had filed an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s decision, which upheld his removal from office.
The Election Petition Tribunal had previously removed the governor and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 2023 election.
However, Governor Yusuf contested the tribunal’s ruling at the Appeal Court, which not only affirmed his removal but also stated that he was not a party member during the election and therefore not properly sponsored.
