Super Eagles need to put in strong effort to secure victory in AFCON- Aghahowa
At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, former Super Eagles forward Julius Aghahowa has advised the team to prepare for a formidable opponent.
The 24 nations who will fight for medals at the biennial competition include Jose Peseiro’s team.
The hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau are drawn in Group A alongside the three-time African champions.

If the Super Eagles execute their acts well, Aghahowa thinks they can contend for accolades in the competition.
“The players are in Europe, which makes it easier because everyone plays the same style, but we are not going to have an easy time coming to Africa to play and compete for major tournaments like World Cup qualifiers or AFCON,” Aghahowa said NAN.
“Our players must be well-prepared and keep in mind that it will be challenging to match.” The rest will be history once they resolve that.
He remarked, “The players can do it, and I believe in them, but they need to add to their mentality that the game is a must-win and show commitment and resilience.”
On January 14, the Super Eagles will take on Equatorial Guinea at the Alhassan Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe to kick off their AFCON 2023 campaign.
They play Guinea-Bissau on January 22 and Cote d’Ivoire on January 18 and 22, respectively.
