He claimed that the current crop of Super Eagles players is extremely driven to succeed.

The Africa Cup of Nations 2023 competition will take place in Ivory Coast in January 2024, according to Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, and the team plans to win the championship.

At the most recent tournament in Cameroon in 2022, the Eagles departed disappointingly in the second round after losing 1-0 to Tunisia after Alex Iwobi was sent off for an unsportsmanlike tackle.

In an interview with Channels Television on Friday, Awoniyi stated that the team, having qualified for the upcoming competition, is determined to win it this time.

The first step was to qualify for the AFCON, which we already did. The second step is to do everything in our power to help our nation win the tournament, which is our ultimate goal.

The previous one was an experience for me; I was there, and we are glad to be there once more. Of course, we want to go there and win the trophy for sure, Awoniyi, who also plays for Nottingham Forest of the English Premier League, stated.
He claimed that the fact that every nation competing in the AFCON will be vying for the trophy is not lost on him or his teammates, but he claimed that the Super Eagles’ current roster of players are extremely driven to win.

On June 18, the Super Eagles defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 to advance with one game remaining to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Victor Osimhen scored twice and Kelechi Iheanacho scored once.

Awoniyi, who recently completed his debut season with Forest and scored some crucial goals that kept the squad in the Premier League, acknowledged that things weren’t always easy for him and the team in the early going.

He said that Forest’s continued membership in the English top division at the end of the season was what really important and that this made the season a huge success.

The former Liverpool player said that his meeting with Forest coach Steve Cooper last summer prompted him to leave German Bundesliga team Union Berlin and join the Premier League team.

When questioned about transfer rumors suggesting he would leave Forest, Awoniyi responded that nothing has changed about his five-year deal with Forest and that he is still under that agreement.

He assured his audience that this season will surpass the previous one in quality.

As a result of Awoniyi’s ten goals for Forest last season, the two-time Champions League champions, who only recently made their top-flight comeback in 2022 after spending many years in the Championship, were able to stay there.
