The Sultanate Council of Sokoto has urged the Muslim community to observe the sighting of the crescent moon for Sha’aban 1446 AH on Wednesday, which coincides with the 29th day of Rajab 1446 AH.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, serving as the Waziri of Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, communicated the directive.

The statement encouraged Muslims to report any sightings of the crescent moon to their nearest district or village leaders. These officials would then pass on the information to Sultan Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar in Sokoto for official confirmation.

In Islam, the sighting of the new moon for Sha’aban holds great significance because Sha’aban is the month that comes before Ramadan, which is the sacred month dedicated to fasting.
