Suicide Bombers Detonate IED in Borno, Killing Soldier and Seven Others

Two suicide bombers have set off an improvised explosive device (IED) at a wedding venue in Gwoza town, Borno State, resulting in the death of a soldier and seven others, including wedding guests. Sixteen individuals were also wounded.

According to an eyewitness, the first bomber, who was carrying a baby on her back, entered the venue and detonated the IED.

The wedding took place on Saturday at Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town.

A military source in Gwoza reported that the female suicide bomber crossed the road opposite the military base and immediately detonated the IED, killing a soldier.

The terrorists regrouped and attacked the 192 Brigade, but the Nigerian Army troops successfully fought back. The bomber, identified as a young mother in her twenties, pretended to be a guest at the wedding.

While attempting to bury the deceased, another bomber, disguised as a mourner, detonated an IED at the burial ground, resulting in the death of one person.

The injured are currently receiving medical treatment at the General Hospital in Gwoza.

Following the explosions, the military has imposed a curfew in Gwoza with immediate effect. The spokesperson of Sector One Operation Hadin Kai and 7 Division confirmed the incident but stated that there is no situation report yet from Gwoza.
