Sudan’s Top Military Leader Visits Collapsed Dam Site

Sudan’s top military leader inspects the site of a collapsed dam, addressing the impact of the disaster and discussing immediate relief measures for affected communities.

On Sunday, the leading military figure of Sudan – General Abdel-Fattah Burhan visited the site of a dam collapse in the northeastern region to meet with locals and first responders.

Due to heavy rainfall in the vicinity, farms and villages downstream were washed away when the Arbaat Dam north of Port Sudan broke.

Extensive damage has been reported by Amr Eissa Taher, the chief official in charge of water resources for the Red Sea state.

At least 60 people are feared dead and many more missing, according to a local official who spoke with the Sudanese news site Al-Tagheer.

According to the authorities of health department, they have dispatched assistance to aid individuals who are stuck in that region.

Sudan has been hit by the newest catastrophe amidst ongoing warfare that started in April last year, following a clash between the military and Rapid Support Forces.

Due to the conflict, countless individuals have been displaced from their residences and multiple states within the nation have announced a state of famine.

Food shortages will worsen as a result of the severe weather conditions.

Port Sudan has become the de facto administrative capital since conflicts took over Khartoum, and its main source of water supply is from the dam.
