The leader of Sudan’s military addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, urging the militias engaged in conflict within the nation to disarm and cease hostilities.
General Abdel-Fattah Burhan’s remarks coincided with renewed violence in Sudan’s capital, characterized by airstrikes and drone assaults in and around Khartoum, amidst a deteriorating cholera epidemic, according to officials.
For several months, intense fighting has been concentrated in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, where RSF forces have besieged the city since May.

“The Dagalo family has been flouting all laws and international obligations without facing consequences,” Burhan stated. “They have disregarded the Juba declaration and rejected the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council.”
In a bid to regain control of territories in the capital previously held by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Sudan’s military initiated an operation early in the morning.
Reports from Sudanese media indicated a surge in military activity and airstrikes in the districts of Khartoum and Omdurman, marking the most significant military engagement in the capital region in recent months.
