The fight between the Sudanese army and a rival paramilitary group has been raging for some time, and more bloodshed was reported on Tuesday, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The IFRC said in a statement that the cargo included mosquito nets, cooking sets, and blankets for 500 people.
In the upcoming days, another cargo of medical supplies was anticipated.
The majority of our humanitarian materials have already been sent to those in need, despite some being looted in Khartoum and Darfur, according to Mohammed Mukhier, the IFRC’s regional director for Africa. The Sudanese Red Crescent Society will be able to support those trapped in the fighting and the upcoming floods, which is common in the nation, with the aid of this international humanitarian shipment, which arrives at a key time.
According to the World Health Organization, since the violence started more than a month ago, at least 600 people have died.
According to the UN, more than 700,000 people have been displaced within Sudan, while another 200,000 have fled to nearby nations.
General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces are engaged in combat with the Sudanese army, which is commanded by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
After Omar al-Bashir, the country’s longstanding leader, was overthrown in 2019, the two former allies planned an October 2021 military coup that stalled the country’s transition to civilian administration.
Conflicts about who should manage the integration of the Rapid Support Forces into the army and how it should be done have been escalating between the generals. To put an end to the political instability brought on by the military coup in 2021 and return the nation to civilian government, the military was restructured.
