Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, says that Nigerians who are stuck in Sudan will be sent home by road.

Many people are stuck in the North African country because of a fight over power that has caused a problem. People in the country are being asked to leave because of what happened.

But Onyeama said on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics that those who are stuck can’t be rescued by air.

“We’ve been told how much it will cost and everything else. They told us that there are 5,500 people ready to leave. In a case like this, it’s clear that you need a place where everyone can meet up before you start moving them out. Because, as you said in your story, the airports aren’t working. The only way out is to take the road.

“But it’s not completely safe, so you’ll need the government to give you some security and a safe way out.”

He said, “Our situation is especially difficult because there are so many of us.” Some countries, like the US and Europe, have already started sending people home.

“But what they were really trying to get out of there was their foreign staff. They haven’t been able to get their people out of there yet. We can’t evacuate all of our foreign staff right now because they also need to organise the evacuation of all those kids.

In a statement written by the Charge D’ Affairs of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Khartoum, H.Y. Garko told students, who make up about 80% of the people who are stuck, to stay inside.

The Federal Government said that it was still dangerous to travel towards the borders of Sudan without a security pass and promise from the Sudanese government.
