Sudan: All Nigerians trapped in Khartoum have been successfully evacuated – FG
The Federal Government said that it successfully evacuated every Nigerian who was left behind in the unstable capital of Sudan, Khartoum.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs’ Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sani Gwarzo, revealed this on Friday when he met the second group of 130 evacuees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the refugees flew from Port Sudan aboard a TARCO Aircraft B373-300 and arrived at the airport’s Pilgrims Terminal at precisely 3:10 p.m. local time.
“I’m pleased to report that we have successfully evacuated Khartoum of everyone who needed to be evacuated. None of your coworkers from today are still in Khartoum; they have all relocated.
“You were the first group to leave Khartoum and be taken to the Egyptian border; some of them are still with us, while others have already made it to Nigeria.
Nevertheless, the majority of them will arrive within the next eight hours or longer. No Nigerian would be left on the Egyptian border by that point, according to Gwarzo.
He reported that Port Sudan provided airlift for the second round of evacuees.
However, we have sufficient plans in place for everyone to be flown within the upcoming several days. We have about 1,700 individuals there, and we have planned enough flights to get them back home. The good news is that nobody has died, he declared.
Two men are among the 130 evacuees, according to Gwarzo, with the remainder being women and children.
He gave the people the assurance that the team would continue to give women, children, and those who are ill among them priority.
