The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said on Wednesday that it will decide whether to suspend or continue its protest against the consequences of gasoline subsidies on Thursday.
Mr Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, disclosed this to journalists after meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday in Abuja.
The NLC is protesting the lack of palliatives to soften the blow of the recent loss of fuel subsidies.
He said that the president did not push organised labour to call off the strike, and that Tinubu is a “pro-democracy activist; so he understands protests.”
“He [Tinubu] has expressed his position and made some commitments that have been taken in tandem with what the Senate has said.”
“We’re bringing it back to the office with our colleagues to review it before releasing a document outlining our next course of action.”
“No one can call it [the protest] off,” he stressed. That’s why I believe we’ll need to return to the office. So it will be discussed at the EXCO meeting.
“And the NLC will also have their NEC meeting tomorrow to look at the big picture.”
