In order to ease the withdrawal of fuel subsidies in Kogi, the Federal Government plans to provide N25,000 per month to about 230,411 households.
This was said by Hajiya Sadiya Abdullahi, the National Cash Transfer Office’s (NCTO) National enrolling Manager, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday during the enrolling process for specific beneficiaries in Lokoja.
The “Renewed Hope Initiative Intervention” plan, according to her, was utilising the National Social Safety Net project structure.
She claimed that by doing this, Tinubu would be able to keep his pledge to lessen the financial blow of the elimination of fuel subsidies.
“The N25,000 monthly disbursement for three months in the first phase will benefit over 15 million households nationwide,” she stated.
According to Abdullahi, the recipients came from the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office, or NASSCO, which has been validated.
“One primary recipient per home will support a total of 15 million people in Nigeria.
“For the first phase of the intervention, we have 230,411 beneficiaries in Kogi, which represents one-third of the total beneficiaries to be caught.
As you can see, in order to enrol beneficiaries for payment, we have shown their list of beneficiaries, both banked and unbanked. This activity is about openness and accountability.
“The unbanked beneficiaries are supported to have bank accounts for financial inclusion, and the system is fully digital,” the spokeswoman stated.
Speaking also, Mrs. Bridget James, Head of Operation, Kogi Cash Transfer Unit, explained that the purpose of the activity was to present the beneficiary list and move forward with gathering their data.
Since the majority of the beneficiaries lack bank accounts, we are obtaining their information as long as their names are included on the National Social Register (NSR).
“By obtaining their details, they will then be eligible to receive N25,000 per month for three months, which will help mitigate the negative impact of the removal of fuel subsidies,” the spokesperson stated.
According to Okpanachi, the operation would include about 171,000 new beneficiaries in addition to the approximately 74,000 households that were already receiving the N5,000 monthly cash transfer that the state has been offering since 2016.
“Therefore, the first phase of the federal government’s Renewed Hope intervention programme in Kogi will benefit over 230,000 households overall,” she stated.
She added that enrollment was taking place concurrently in all 21 of the state’s local government areas (LGAs) and that more than 14,000 households in Lokoja LGA would benefit.
She told the recipients to remain calm and wait because there was enough staff on the ground to quickly apprehend them.
