The 2023 Student Loan Act became official after being signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The bill was approved by the Ninth National Assembly, but Tinubu signed it on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as part of initiatives to improve tertiary educational access and delivery.
According to Dele Alake, a senior aide to the President, and Andrew Adejo, the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, the act will guarantee that poor students have access to loans so they can continue their education.
Alake asserts that Tinubu made the loan initiative one of his campaign-related pledges.
Right now, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu just signed the Student Loan Act. This is simply the fulfillment of his campaign-trail promise to provide loans to students so they could attend college.
The Federal Scholarship Board, which already exists, was underfunded and required an enabling act in order to function properly, but now that an enabling act is in place, the procedures for hassle-free access to student loans will be much simpler, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education.
