David Longji, a 23-year-old student, was given a three-month prison sentence by an area court in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, on Friday for stealing a solar panel.
Following his admission of guilt to theft, Longji was sentenced by Mr. Shawomi Bokkos, the judge.
But Bokkos offered him the chance to settle the fine with N20,000.

The prosecution’s attorney, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, had earlier informed the court that the complainant, Livinus James, had reported the case on October 16 at the Anglo-Jos Police Station.
The prosecutor stated that the prisoner was apprehended while attempting to resell the solar panel that he had stolen from a business.
According to Gokwat, the offence was against the Plateau Penal Code.
