One of the regions worst affected by a comparable catastrophe two weeks ago, Hatay province in Turkey, has experienced two earthquakes in quick succession.
Two earthquakes hit Turkey on Monday night, according to local media, which cited emergency services. About two weeks prior, a second round of devastating earthquakes rocked Syria and Turkey.
According to the country’s Anadolu news agency, the recent earthquakes caused multiple structures to collapse. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Administration (AFAD) issued a warning about the possibility of a rise in water level along the Mediterranean coast and urged citizens to stay away from coastal areas.
According to Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, there were at least three fatalities and 213 injuries in the recent earthquakes. Prior to two weeks ago, at least 41,000 people died and more than 13 million people were affected by two powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 respectively that struck as many as ten Turkish provinces.
Together with Jordan, Egypt, and Israel, Syria, which was also affected by the natural disaster two weeks ago, felt the quakes on Monday.
