There have been some revelations on the meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress, or NLC.
On Monday, the discussion came to an impasse.
The meeting was convened by Simon Lalong, the minister of labour and employment, but none of the union’s concerns were addressed.
The minister did, however, express confidence that the problems brought up by the Nigerian employees would be resolved.
He promised that the FG would fix the problems before the deadline.
“We must acknowledge the economic reality we face.
We must be careful to strike a balance that fosters economic growth and ensures sustainable progress for our country while we address the concerns of our workforce.
He urged everyone to engage in a “open-minded and constructive dialogue today so that we can close any gaps that may exist between the interests of workers and the overarching objective of promoting economic advancement.”
“The issue of NURTW was clearly stated in the ultimatum we gave and in the NEC resolution, and it was at the time the issue has not degenerated the way it is now,” said NLC President Ajaero. We had to bring it along because of this.
“On the other concerns, you can see that there was no consensus; there is no CNG anywhere, and neither the refineries nor the gas are operating.
“Neither the ASUU problems nor the wage award and cash transfer issue have received any attention. However, we think that something will occur between now and the deadline, which is in a few days.
If no progress was made prior to the expiration of the union’s ultimatum, according to Ajaero, there was no turning back on the intended indefinite strike.
