‘Stop Islamophobia’ is campaign started by UK organisation to call on the government to combat prejudice
Famous Muslims and their friends have joined forces with a UK-based Muslim family charity to launch the “Stop Islamophobia” campaign on Monday and call on the UK government to formally observe the UN’s International Day to Fight Islamophobia every year.
On Monday, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London hosted the event, which was sponsored by the Aziz Foundation.
Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, MP Naaz Shah, social media personality Chunkz, former UN Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief Ahmed Shaheed, and model Mariah Idrissi were among those who spoke at the event, which was moderated by acclaimed British actor Adil Ray.
They had gathered to support the Muslim community and address the escalating issue of Islamophobia. Among those there were community and religious leaders, members of parliament, local politicians, artists, and other well-known people.
The speakers said that Islamophobia was a significant issue in the UK and urged everyone to recognise it for what it is and take action to eradicate it.
